Benzino, a star of "Love & Hop Hop: Atlanta" and of the greater hip-hop world, was shot in Massachusetts Saturday (March 29) while attending his mother's funeral.
According to Boston.com, the shooter was Benzino's 36-year-old nephew, Gai Scott. The shooting came during the funeral procession in which Benzino was driving a red SUV. Scott reportedly pulled up and fired several shots into the car. Although struck at least twice -- in the arm and a grazing shot to the back -- Benzino was able to get a ride to a nearby police department after the incident. He was soon transferred to a hospital and was listed as being in good condition.
Police arrested Scott and charged him with assault with the intent to murder. Supposedly, the incident is related to a long-standing family dispute.
The CEO of "Hip-Hop Weekly" and former co-owner of "The Source," Benzino has been a feature of the music world for several years. Season 3 of the Atlanta version of "Love & Hip Hop" is set to premiere in May on VH1.
