Parental Advisory: Mark Wahlberg’s Most Kid Unfriendly Roles

After starring in the harrowing true story of Navy SEALs Mark Wahlberg is ready for a slightly less stressful popcorn flick. He’ll next be seen in Michael Bay‘sTransformers: Age of Extinction, leading the charge for the latest installment of the popular franchise. It’s a project he’s excited about, and one he plans to show his children. “I haven’t really done anything that was kid friendly,” Wahlberg told PEOPLE this week. “It was really the best of both worlds, because [Transformers] was something they’d be interested in and something I hadn’t done before.” Something else Ella, Michael, Brendan and Grace can enjoy? The 2014 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, which their dad happens to be hosting. But considering the actor has played a porn star, a drug addict and a vengeful cop (among other things), how many of his films has the KCA core audience actually seen?
From his breakout role as Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights to his days on the street with Leonardo DiCaprio in The Basketball Diaries, Wahlberg has a tendency to go for the grit. His performance as a salty, continually pissed off Boston detective in The Departed earned him an Academy Award nomination, and the brilliant black comedy of Ted was successful enough to warrant a sequel. That film may have featured an animated teddy bear, but it was far from warm and fuzzy. With the Kids’ Choice Awards just hours away, take a look at the films from the Wahlberg canon that require the most parental supervision during a screening. And remember: Just because Planet of the Apes features animals your children love to see at the zoo doesn’t mean they should be subjected to such a disaster. In fact, no one should.
