Other than being the daughter of Lionel Richie, and having fabuous bohemian fashion sense, Nicole Richie is known for her frenemy relationship with Paris Hilton. She went to school with one of the Kardashian sisters, and starred in a reality series called “The Simple Life,” with her then best friend Paris Hilton. She has guest starred on “The View” as well, where she made her musical debut.

She does have her own shoe collection and fragrance line now.

The award for being famous by association goes to none other than Kate Middleton. She was fairly wealthy, but her parents were British Airway employees. She got famous by marrying into British royalty, to the very handsome Prince William. She has since done many good works, but born into the aristocracy she wasn’t.

Kim Kardashian is a celebrity because she was friends with Paris Hilton, dated star athletes, and because she made a sex tape with her then-boyfriend Ray J which got leaked to the public. Not exactly a great resume. She is actually a famous socialite because she knows people who know people. Her dad was O.J. Simpson’s defense lawyer and her step-father is Bruce Jenner. Her biggest achievement seems to be the sex tape that netted her $5 million in court
